Norwegian immigrants organized Bergen Evangelical Lutheran Church on May 13, 1872. In 1879 Bergen's membership outgrew its first log church, making it the eighth largest Norwegian congregation in Southwest Minnesota. In 1885 a new building was built and served until it was destroyed by lightning in 1920. The laying of the cornerstone of a new church and the congregation's 50th anniversary were celebrated on June 11, 1922. This building is still is our church, and with the construction of Sunday School rooms and an entrance in 1961 and an entry expansion in 1985, it serves the congregation's needs nicely. In 1997 we celebrated our 125 th Church Anniversary.
